The Microtech Combat Troodon OTF Automatic Knife

When it comes to precision made OTF (out the front) automatic knives, Microtech has cornered the market with their Combat Troodon. At 25% larger than the flagship model, Troodon, the Combat Troodon brings the slender handle and contour shape to a larger scale.

The Microtech Combat Troodon works with sophisticated  internal mechanism to offer an automatic opening and closing experience unlike any other. Functionality and reliability make Microtech knives one of the most sought after on the  market.

The Combat Troodon is designed for close quarter combat applications along with a variety of utility options. It is large and solid in the hand with a very stiff manual thumb slide for automatic deployment and retraction.

Blade

The Combat Troodon blade measures 3.75" and comes in a tanto, drop point and double edge dagger style blade. The color options on the Combat are Black, Bead Blast, Stonewash and Satin.

Handle

The handle measures 5.25" long and is made from anodized 6061 T6 aluminum. It comes in a variety of finishes including black, desert tan, OD green and a host of other specialty runs. On the handle you will find jimping for grip and a manual thumb slide for double action automatic operation.

All hardware is bead blast finished on the Combat Troodon handle except for the black tactical version which is all black. Pocket clip is attached for tip down carry.

The Microtech Scarab Out The Front Automatic Knife

Microtech is one of the top producers of automatic knives and they specialize in OTF (out the front) knives. One of their best selling knives for the Military specialists is the Scarab and for good reason. The Scarab (named after the Scarab beetle) is a great tactical field operations double action automatic knife that was essentially modeled after the Ultratech, Microtech's original double action OTF.

Handle

Being a beefier version of the Ultratech, the Scarab is made for tactical operations and even features grip tape inlay on the 6061 T6 aluminum handle. The handle measures 4.6" and is slightly wider than the Ultratech making it a very nice fit in the hand.

The dual action thumb slide is located on the side of the handle and is made from bead blast stainless steel. All hardware is bead blast finished to match and the pocket clip features a scarab beetle logo to represent the knife's namesake. Atop the pocket clip is a carbide tip glass breaker or skull crusher if you so desire.

The newest 2014 QD Scarab features port holes in the end of the handle similar to the Navy Scarab models.

Blade

The Microtech Scarab blade features a 3.5" Elmax stainless steel double edge and single edge drop point style blade. The blade comes in all finishes and features a serial number, date of manufacture, Microtech logo and QD Scarab written above the logo.

The Microtech Ultratech Is The First Double Action OTF For MT Knives

The backbone of all things double action OTF for Microtech Knives is the Ultratech. It all started for them in 1999 with the Microtech Ultratech OTF and they have never looked back. The Ultratech is the first dual action (auto deploy and retract) knife that Microtech produced and it has been one of the biggest sellers for them ever since.

The Ultratech's internal action is very high end and features a spring that remains at rest when the blade is not deployed. This helps to eliminate "spring fatigue" to ensure the spring action lasts for a very long time. This is something Microtech wanted to enlist considering it is one of the more common concerns with a double action out the front knife.

As with all mechanical working parts, things break down and not every knife is going to be perfect but Microtech's quality control has been stellar so your chances are much greater by purchasing one of their OTF autos.

The Microtech Ultratech handle is very slim and lightweight. It is made of anodized aluminum and features a thumb slide on the side of the handle to engage the dual blade action. A pocket clip allows the knife to be EDC ready.

The Ultratech's blade is 3.4" double edge and comes in satin, stonewash, black and bead blast. You can get it in a standard edge, combo or fully serrated blade. The bayonet blade is a huge seller for Microtech (as seen above) and comes in a black/satin finish.
